Twelve-year-old Molly Wogan was volunteering at a shelter one day when she met a dog who would change her life and the lives of dozens of other rescue dogs — although she had no idea at the time.

It all started at Cape Ann Animal Aid in Massachusetts two years ago. Molly was volunteering there with her family and she instantly fell in love with Mama Grace.

But Molly’s mother, Mindy Wogan, wasn’t so sure about the black Lab mix at first. “We were about to leave at the end of our shift, we even had our coats on, when the staff asked us if we could take out just one more dog, Mama Grace,” she told The Dodo. “They said she was a little hyper in her kennel, barking constantly, and was refusing to go to the bathroom.”
